Artifact #2Student Teaching Final Evaluation
My End-of-Year Evaluation from my Field Instructor |
Artifact #3Curriculum Review
A Look at a Student Success Curriculum Through Several Educational Perspectives |
During my student teaching year I created several cooperative learning projects where students analyzed non-textual primary sources. These plans represent my personal progressive and constructionist teaching philosophy.
|
Throughout my student teaching year I was guided in my practice by a Field Instructor assigned my Michigan State. She would observe my lessons, locate areas of strength and weakness, and debrief with me afterwards to better my teaching. I struggled throughout most of the year to apply the concepts I had learned in my theoretical teacher education classes to the actual classroom. I struggled and I worked hard. This evaluation documents the success of that hard work.

What are the skills necessary for a student to be successful in school? Have we taught these skills to all of our students? Talent Development has a set of Student Success Curriculum designed to teach off-track students the specific skills necessary to be successful in high school. This project was a review of that curriculum through three different theoretical perspectives: curriculum integration, differentiation, and social-emotional learning.

Artifact #5Action Research
The Redesign of Student Report Cards for Greater Impact and Understanding |
These lessons were designed and implement at a middle school in Detroit. They were meant to support the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) System and to focus on the student's critical writing skills.
|
The goal of redesigning the basic student report card was to get the students started in the loop above. To provide them personalized information, that was relevant to them, provide them with different courses of action, and then support them as they work. This redesign was meant to jumpstart that first step and make report cards more meaningful.

Artifact #6The EWI&I Tracker
A database designed to link a student's achievement data with interventions. |
Artifact #7Data Analysis Simulation
A simulated data driven decision making process for tiered interventions. |
The Early Warning Indicator and Intervention (EWI&I) Tracker is meant to integrate both student achievement data (attendance, behavior, and course performance) and interventions designed by the school staff. It is meant to be used during teacher teams as a way to monitor the progress of both their students and the quality of their interventions.
|
In a room of school turnaround leaders I led a simulation in which they designed tiered interventions based on attendance, behavior, and course performance data.

The Nerd Power Blog
Empowering Your Inner Nerd and Taking Over the World
Empowering Your Inner Nerd and Taking Over the World
For the past year or so I have kept a blog that outlines how nerdy I am and it does so in three areas of my life: at home, with technology, and finally as a professional educator.
