Artifact #6: The EWI&I Tracker Training Module (CEP 820)
Goals: 1, 3
Standards: 1, 2, 5, 6
It all started during my first year teaching in New Orleans. The student information system (SIS), electronic gradebook and attendance tracker, was baffling to me. It was slow, difficult to use, and I didn't like it. So I wrote my own. Fast forward 5 years. I am now working as a school turnaround coordinator at a K-8 school in Detroit. Once again I used my database programming abilities and created a program to track interventions for the middle grades. Now as a support person for multiple schools the program will be used in several cities/districts. I took a course at Michigan State to develop my online teaching abilities, and in doing so created these videos to train school personnel in its use I developed a series of web videos.
Developing these training programs was the first step in making it available to schools that I don't work with directly. This first series of videos, along with the demo Tracker, were designed for Detroit Public Schools in particular. As of right now (Summer 2012) I only work with 3 schools in Detroit, but with the training modules, any school personnel that has access to the district's database can export the data required to run the program.
